Coastal Flood Warning, Areal Flood Warning
Statement as of 12:02 am EDT on May 12, 2008

... Coastal Flood Warning in effect until 6 am EDT Monday...

The National Weather Service in Baltimore MD/Washington has
issued a coastal Flood Warning... which is in effect until 6 am
EDT Monday.

This mornings high tide cycle will run 2.5 to 3.0 feet above
normal. This will put the tidal Potomac north of Aquia creek in
Stafford County in flood. This includes the city of
Alexandria... Washington DC including East Potomac Park... and the
easternmost parking areas of Washington Reagan National Airport.

Here are the times of the next high tides

Along the Potomac River...
Washington DC key bridge... 3:00 am
Washington DC Maine Avenue wharf... 2:35 am
Alexandria VA... 2:53 am
Indian Head MD... 2:21 am
Aquia creek VA... 12:49 am

A coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or
imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert
for rising water... and take appropriate action to protect life
and property.

1017 PM EDT sun may 11 2008

... The Flood Warning remains in effect until 215 am EDT for Prince
Georges... Anne Arundel... Montgomery and Howard counties...

At 1017 PM EDT... radar indicated very heavy rain over the Washington
and Baltimore Metro areas. Another two to three inches are expected
through 2 am. This will likely cause flooding of small streams and
creeks.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected.
However... all interested parties should take necessary precautions
immediately.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flooding is observed act quickly. Move up to
higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject to
flooding when water begins rising.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of Maryland... the District of Columbia and Virginia...
including the following areas... in Maryland... Anne Arundel...

areas. Rain will diminish from southwest to northeast Monday.
One to three inches of rain... with localized amounts near 5
inches... will fall on top of saturated soils. Intermittent rain
will end from southwest to northeast Monday afternoon.

* The heavy rain may cause streams and creeks to overflow their

susceptible to flooding. As the water works its way into the
rivers Monday... river flooding will be possible.

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.
