Coastal Flood Advisory, Coastal Flood Watch

... Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM EDT this
evening...
... Coastal Flood Watch remains in effect from 6 PM EDT this
evening through late tonight...

A coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM EDT this
evening. A coastal Flood Watch remains in effect from 6 PM EDT
this evening through late tonight.

Southerly winds this afternoon and lowering pressure in
association with the nearing of Hurricane Earl will create
positive tidal anomalies of around 1 foot... across the tidal
Potomac River and Maryland Chesapeake Bay. This will lead to minor
coastal flooding across traditionally flood sensitive areas around
the periods of high tides today.

Later tonight and into the overnight hours... as Hurricane Earl
reaches is closest point to the waters... off the Delmarva
Peninsula... tidal anomalies may increase further for the waters of
the tidal Potomac River and Maryland Chesapeake Bay... potentially
1 to 3 feet above normal. The speed and proximity to land of
Hurricane Earl will be key in how high water levels get. There is
the possibility of minor to moderate tidal flooding tonight across
portions of the Maryland Chesapeake Bay and tidal Potomac River.

Here are the times of the next high tides
for a few locations from north to south...
on the Chesapeake Bay...
Havre de Grace... 4:25 PM and 5:26 am...
Bowley Bar... 2:03 PM and 3:04 am...
Fort McHenry Baltimore... 1:12 PM and 2:13 am...
Annapolis U.S. Naval Academy... 11:42 am and 12:43 am...
Chesapeake Beach... 10:25 am and 11:26 PM...
Solomons Island... 9:35 PM and 9:40 am...
Point Lookout... 8:45 PM and 8:50 am...

Now along the Potomac River...
Washington Channel... 2:50 PM and 3:08 am...
Alexandria... 3:08 PM and 3:26 am...
Indian Head... 2:36 PM and 2:54 am...
Aquia creek... 1:22 PM and 1:40 am...
Goose Bay... 10:42 am and 11:00 PM...
Coltons Point... 9:50 PM and 10:42 am...

A coastal Flood Advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides
will combine to generate flooding of low areas along the shore.

A coastal Flood Watch means that conditions favorable for
flooding are expected to develop. Coastal residents should be
alert for later statements or warnings... and take action to
protect property.
